Melissa Strawser, Artist~Author EVERYDAY ART, Folk Art
I was raised in a socio-economic family setting with folk artists and my mom's self-taught folk artistry rooted me, as an artist, to Pennsyvlania.  Since the age of 19, and as 4th generation, I manage two studio art practices; intaglio printmaker-painter and metal sculptress.  This first book run sold out and I'm very grateful for your continued support.  The second run is part of ongoing book signing events in the area of Lancaster, Berks, Montgomery and Lehigh County.  Currently you can find copies of my book at Masthof Press & Bookstore, Clay Bookstore, Landis Valley Museum Gift Shop and Millbach Homestead.

The book is a  'loving tribute' for my mom and what that means to mothers and daughters.  With a sacred devotion to her deep connection with art, family and our Pennsylvania Dutch (German) folklife traditions.  This is a quilt symbolizing our beliefs, art history, integrity and dexterity to our working hands as women who celebrate a nurtured history.  My Pennsylvania Dutch (German) heritage, history, tradition and rooted artistry is what grounded me to a foundation of creativity and objects that conserve our everyday art for living.  It is where folk art came from in Pennsylvania and shows how we can progress in the arts to help others.

In celebration for the 500th year of Martyrs' Mirror, illuminated manuscripts with folk art as a 'popular culture;' this book honors five generations of women in folk art for nurturing the love as a living tribute for my mom.  Our historical, generational artistry will continue to inspire creative genius for generations to come.

September 6, 2025, marked the first Ceremony with an unveiling for a "Bronze Plaque & Bench" honoring, local artisan of Schaefferstown and Berks County,  Barbara Strawser.  Thanks to Historic Schaefferstown, Inc and the Gemberling Rex House, along with my mom's home and studio, are now listed on the National Register.  With ongoing restorative endeavors that treasure artistic national legacy, I appreciate all your support.  A self-taught folk artistry of this caliber is about preserving, sharing, and growing a local community as every artist drives the economy in a different yet important way.  I'd like to champion my local heritage and eventually provide educational and establishes long-term economic growth that empowers the youth for generations to come.

Very truly yours,
Melissa Strawser
